Luxembourg Government Awards €1 Million to Space Biotech Firm Exobiosphere

Luxembourg's Ministry of the Economy has awarded €1 million in non-dilutive funding to space biotech company Exobiosphere through its Jeune Entreprise Innovante (JEI) programme, supporting further development of the company's microgravity drug-discovery platform. Its flagship system, the Orbital High-Throughput Screener, runs experiments aboard space stations, leveraging microgravity conditions to support disease modeling and pharmaceutical research.

The goal is simple: make space a routine, essential part of the biomedical R&D pipeline, so we can bring better and faster treatments to patients, the company says.

Exobiosphere was launched in 2024 by Kyle Acierno, joined by co-founders Dr. Bruno Santos and Dr. Olivia Borgue. The startup has set out to build the world's first standardized, space-based high-throughput testing platform, giving pharmaceutical and biotech companies the means to run automated experiments in orbit at scale. "The goal is simple: make space a routine, essential part of the biomedical R&D pipeline, so we can bring better and faster treatments to patients," the company says.

The JEI aid targets research-intensive companies with strong growth potential, combining non-dilutive public funding with private investment to help them move into their next stage of growth. For Exobiosphere, the €1 million grant will help fund its commercial expansion, strengthen operations, and grow international business development and marketing, while supporting continued growth of its Orbital High-Throughput Screening platform.
