Prime Minister Luc Frieden concluded a five-day visit to the West Coast of the United States, where he met with major technology companies, academic institutions, and research centers in Seattle and San Francisco. In meetings with global tech leaders including Nvidia, Amazon, Google, and Microsoft, Prime Minister Frieden reaffirmed Luxembourg’s commitment to fostering international cooperation and maintaining close ties with one of the world’s most vibrant innovation hubs.

Given the economic and societal opportunities offered by artificial intelligence, it is important to consolidate ties between Luxembourg and the United States—an indispensable player in the field of technology—by fostering strategic partnerships and creating synergies in a rapidly changing geopolitical and economic landscape.

Discussions centered on the latest developments in digital innovation and artificial intelligence, as well as the geopolitical and strategic challenges linked to emerging technologies.

During these exchanges, the Prime Minister underscored the importance of reinforcing Europe’s digital sovereignty. He emphasized that digital sovereignty must not imply protectionism, but rather the freedom to choose technological partnerships based on openness, diversity, and strategic autonomy.

The visit also included in-depth discussions at Stanford's Hoover Institution with Condoleezza Rice and at the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence.

The Prime Minister also met with representatives of venture capital funds to explore opportunities for cooperation and financing to support the development of strategic sectors such as digital technology and defence.

Beyond artificial intelligence, space cooperation was also high on the agenda. The Prime Minister visited Boeing, reaffirming the close relationship between Luxembourg and key industry players including SES, Cargolux, and Luxair. A key moment of the trip was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Berkeley Space Center and the University of Luxembourg’s Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT). This agreement aims to deepen collaboration in space research, innovation, and education.

On 11 November, coinciding with Veterans Day in the United States, Prime Minister Frieden paid tribute to Ken Mar, a U.S. Army veteran who fought in the Battle of the Bulge. In honoring his service, the Prime Minister highlighted the enduring friendship and shared history between Luxembourg and the United States.
