Luxembourg Strengthens Ties with Silicon Valley on Automated Driving Technology
From 8 to 9 December 2025, Luxembourg’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Xavier Bettel and Minister of the Economy Lex Delles, were on a working visit to San Francisco, focused on advancing autonomous driving and related technologies.
San Francisco, 10 December 2025 — From 8 to 9 December 2025, Luxembourg’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Xavier Bettel, and Minister of the Economy Lex Delles, conducted a working visit to Silicon Valley to deepen Luxembourg’s engagement with leading players in autonomous driving and explore new opportunities for cooperation and innovation.
Meetings with Technology Leaders
The Luxembourg delegation met with PonyAI and Tensor, both already established in Luxembourg, as well as Applied Intuition and PlusAI to discuss:
- Recent technological advances in autonomous driving systems.
- Regulatory and safety challenges for deployment.
- Opportunities for collaboration in on-road testing, data analysis, and urban integration of autonomous vehicles.
- The role of artificial intelligence and autonomous driving applications in logistics.
The ministers also met with Cloudflare, a global internet infrastructure and network security provider, and Lyten, a company specializing in lithium-sulfur battery technology with its European headquarters in Luxembourg.
Promoting Luxembourg as a Hub for Innovation
The delegation highlighted Luxembourg’s strategic advantages as a testbed for advanced mobility solutions, citing:
- High-capacity digital infrastructure.
- Access to real-world experimentation areas, including cross-border testbeds with France and Germany.
- A strong, government-backed commitment to innovation and the deployment of future mobility technologies.
Ministers’ Statements
Minister Lex Delles underscored the country’s ambition with the recently launched “Automatiséiert Fueren 2028” strategy, which aims to position Luxembourg as a reference hub for next-generation mobility. He noted that the visit offered valuable insights into cutting-edge technologies and revealed promising collaboration opportunities with some of the world’s most innovative firms.
Vice-Prime Minister Xavier Bettel stressed the transformative potential of autonomous driving. He reiterated Luxembourg’s commitment to fostering these emerging technologies responsibly, within an environment that supports economic stability and innovation while ensuring benefits for society at large.
